Execom goes to the Mountain

June 6, 2006, was a special day for the core group of SVCF. We went up to the Touch of Glory Prayer Mountain to search out God's will for SVCF Manila this coming semester. It was indeed fulfilling, and it was like an encounter of the Burning Bush.

Those present were: Ron, Faith, Dianne, Francis, and Ate Ida. Exciting events are coming up this sem, but beyond that, praise God for giving us fresh eyes and a new vision for the org.

Jeremiah 33:3 says: Call to me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.

For those who couldn't come but included us in their prayers, thank you. For the walk of each member in God is also the walk of SVCF. :D

Jesus is the reason for the season!

God didn't sent us a kingly man to give us treasures, or a genie that puffs out of a bottle to fulfill all our wishes. He sent us a baby that night on a manger . . . just enough to touch your heart, and to renew your spirit.

When the Jews were expecting a king, God sent a lowly baby.
When shepherds are expecting a sleepy night with their sheep, God sent a choir of angels.
When the wise men gazed at the stars that night, God showed them a revelation.
When the world was so gloomy and silent, God sent Jesus to rekindle the hope that was thought to have long gone out.

The State Varsity Christian Fellowship-Manila will be transported to the world of Middle-earth this coming Friday, September 23, 2005.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING has been nominated in the Oscars and has won over 11 Academy Awards including BEST PICTURE. In anticipation of the new release of the Extended Scenes (45 Minutes!!!), the extended film will be shown this Friday, with a small talk initiated by Francis Pasion, one of the assistant moderators of the Philippine Order of Narnians (CS Lewis Filipino Fan Group) about the Spiritual Worldview of Tolkien that has ignited his breathtaking imagination.

An IVCF Staff as our Guest

The Big Fellowship this Friday was rendered with funny ice-breakers and uplifting praise and worship.

Our guest was an IVCF Staff who just came for the first time at UP Manila. His name is 'Kuya Eric.' He exhorted the students present with a challenge. Read the Bible!

He exhorted to us God's Word and the third SVCF Statement of Faith: "The divine inspiration and the entire trustworthiness of Holy Scripture, as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct."

1. Divine Inspiration
"is originally given" -handed down from generation to generation, with the Bible writers ranging from time immemorial up to 90+ AD, with precise accuracy and uniting theme proving God's inspiration among the Bible's writers.

2 Peter 1:21 - "carried along by the Holy Spirit"
2 Tim. 3: 16

3 Ways to Authenticate
-Bibliographical
-Internal Evidence (what the Bible claims in itself)
-External Evidence (astounding accuracy of the Bible in contrast with major Greek and Roman historical books)

Why the New Testament is accepted as the Word of God
-Book must be written by a man of God (e.g. Paul)
-Writer and writings must conform with the acts of God
-Book must have the power of God
-Book must be accepted by the People of God
(2 Peter 3:15-16 / 1 Cor. 14:37 / Acts 2:42-47)

2. Entire Trustworthiness

Manuscripts came from the faithful copying of the Masorits, the Masoretic Texts.
Old Testament were copied faithfully and accurately by the Jewish Scribes.

According to archeological findings, the reliability of the Old Testament is 95%. The New Testament in turn has 99.5% reliabilty. God indeed protects his WORD from corruption and destruction.

3. Supreme Authority

How Jesus regarded the Scriptures (Matt. 19:46)
How much of your life submits to the authority of the Scriptures?

Conclusion: Every aspect of our lives must stand side by side with the Bible, without contradicting it. Remember, RIGHT DOCTRINE, RIGHT LIFESTYLE!

The First General Assembly

Last August 12 (Yesterday) has been fun. The 4th floor of UCCP where SVCF regularly meet, has been renovated beyond our expectatios. They even have a 'Praise Cafe' there where we can hang out with our potluck foodl. Ma'am Jemma, SVCF Manila's present adviser, talked about Obedience.

She said the best example of obedience is Jesus. (Luke 2:22-42)

She gave us an acronym to remember, which summarizes her exhortation.

O - Obey God NOW. Do not delay. (2 Kings 5:10/John 9)
B - Be careful in thinking that God is leading you to a particular end or goal. Oswald Chambers said, "God's purpose is the process itself."
E - Entrust your cares to the Lord. (Matt. 6:33)
D - DO God's will, his way and not your way. (Isaiah 85:8-9)/Prov. 13:12)
I - Imitate Jesus Christ. (Matt. 27:41-44)
E - Expect the process to be paid for.

Three Kinds of Pain
a. Hurting to the the Will of God.
b. Disobeying God.
c. Hurting due to foolishness.

N - Never concern yourself with what follows in your obedience.
C - Cherish every step that you take w/ Jesus. You will never walk alone.
E - Experience God's power and His presence NOW.

Biggie News

The Big F will be cancelled on Friday, August 5, 2005, to give way to the monthly gathering of all IVCF chapters along Taft Avenue, the LRT Fellowship (Lost, Redeemed, Transformed). It will be held at the Philippine Normal University on the same date at 5pm.

Delegates of the SVCF - Manila are called to inform the Externals or Internals for more information for people interested. Rendezvouz point is at the SVCF Tambayan.

The Great Awakening

SVCF will always remember what happened last Wednesday July 20, 2005, when all the leaders of SVCF's Executive Team got down and offered themselves as broken vessels to God. With it comes an awakening that was an answer from God to the prayers of those who've gone before us.

Vision. The walk of the cross. Sacrifice. These are words full of meaning and burden. But through kneeling, humility and prayer, great movements are formed. The leaders present brought their burdens and and hurts before God, and indeed he answered. The State Varsity Christian Fellowship should be more than a fellowship. It is more than a community. It is not even a religious organization.

It is a movement. It is a lifestyle. It is God's answer to the plight of the students. Some say visions can be taught. But visions in reality are not taught but caught.

Do you feel the tug? Do you still feel that gentle nudge? We are no ordinary org.

We are a broken people bonded by the God, students who just can't depend on studies and mere knowledge. We depend on Him.

This website is a tribute to that Wednesday gathering that brought everything to light. May this website be a source of passion, inspiration, and lofty dreams to the Filipino students of UP Manila. This site is an offering. It's a battlecry for this generation.
